WASHINGTON — First lady Michelle Obama, Malia, Sasha and her mother, Marian Robinson are in London, and on Tuesday they had tea with Prince Harry at Kensington Palace.

Michelle Obama is in the United Kingdom as part of her push to expand one of her signature projects, advancing education for girls, “Let Girls Learn.” The U.S. and U.K. announced a partnership to raise money to help girls in nations hit by crisis and conflict.

From a column by the first lady in FT.com: “I intend to use my remaining time as first lady — and beyond — to rally leaders across the globe to join us in this work. Because every girl, no matter where she lives, deserves the opportunity to develop the promise inside of her.”

And on that tea, the White House East Wing passed this along from a KensingtonPalace spokesman:

“Prince Harry was very pleased to host The First Ladyof the United States Mrs Michelle Obama for tea at Kensington Palace thismorning. They discussed their shared interest in support for veterans and theirfamilies. Prince Harry was also interested to hear from the First Lady aboutthe Let Girls Learn initiative to further adolescent girls’ education around theworld, which is the focus of her visit to the United Kingdom.

“Prince Harrywas also delighted to meet Malia and Sasha Obama and The First Lady’s mother MrsMarian Robinson.”
