Frank Kaminsky, who starred locally at Benet and was college player of the year at Wisconsin, was taken ninth by the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Draft on Thursday night.

In recent days, some had Kaminsky going as high as fourth to the Knicks, but most had him being selected just outside of the lottery, somewhere in the 15 to 20 range.

Some experts think there could still be a deal in the works with Charlotte.

Kaminsky has started slow at every level of basketball, but has come on strong and excelled each time. And, don’t tell him he can’t.

“He hardly averaged anything at Wisconsin his first two years,” ESPN analyst Jay Bilas said. “But he was a late bloomer. And did he bloom.”
