Police: NW suburban woman was stealing flowers from others’ homes

A northwest suburban woman who tried to spruce up her yard with flowers the easy way — by stealing potted plants from other people’s homes — is facing theft charges after police say that caught her “green-handed.”

About 2:40 a.m. May 27, a Mount Prospect police sergeant saw a vehicle going eastbound on Golf Road without its headlights on, and pulled it over for the traffic violation, a statement from police said.

But as the sergeant was speaking with the driver, 36-year-old Agnieszka K. Wojdyla, he saw eight to 10 flower pots and urns in the back of her vehicle, according to police.

The department had “received multiple reports of flowers being stolen from the front of residents’ houses” and when questioned, Wojdyla “admitted to taking the flower pots and urns from multiple houses in the Mount Prospect area,” police said.

Wojdyla, of the 4200 block of North Sayre Avenue in Norridge, was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft. Her next court appearance is June 29 in Rolling Meadows.

In the meantime, Mount Prospect police have a number of flower pots and urns and are looking for the owners. Residents who had such items stolen in the last few weeks should call the Crime Prevention Unit at (847) 870-5650.
