Several alumni of Chicago’s iO improv theater who went on to national fame are returning to their training ground for homecoming shows in August.
Paul Brittain, whose developed his breakout character “Sex” Ed Vincent at iO and presented him on “Saturday Night Live” during his year and a half on the NBC show, will bring back Ed’s half-baked bedroom instructions for one night at the theater at 1501 N. Kingsbury. Showtime is 8 p.m. Monday.
Also returning is Stephnie Weir, a “Madtv” alum who co-starred on the spring FX series “The Comedians” with Billy Crystal and Josh Gad. She’ll perform with her husband and frequent stage partner Bob Dassie at 10 p.m. Friday. Weir was part of a viral clip earlier this month when she played the “anger translator” for Hillary Clinton on the season premiere of “Key & Peele.”
The following week iO welcomes back Beer Shark Mice, a team whose ranks include “Anchorman” sportscaster David Koechner and “The Middle” dad Neil Flynn. The group — whose other members are Mike Coleman, Pat Finn, Pete Hulne and Paul Vaillancourt — will perform five shows Aug. 13-15.
