Man killed in East Garfield Park shooting Saturday identified

A man who was killed in a shooting that left another man wounded early Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood has been identified.

The men, ages 34 and 28, were parked in a vehicle in the 2900 block of West Lexington about 4:10 a.m. when a black vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired at them, police said.

The older man, identified as 34-year-old Calvin McConnell, was shot in the chest and shoulder, and was dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2600 block of West Lexington.

The 28-year-old was shot in the neck, chest and shoulder, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A police source said the man killed was a documented gang member.
