A west suburban man was arrested on drug charges after a foot chase Thursday night on the West Side during which a Chicago Police officer shot and killed a dog that attacked him.

Officers were chasing 21-year-old Antonio Henderson for a narcotic-related offense at 8:53 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Adams when a dog ran up and bit one of the officers in the leg, according to Chicago Police.

The officer then pulled out his gun and fatally shot the dog, police said. The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Henderson, who lives in Maywood, was arrested in the 0-100 block of South Laramie and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of attempted criminal trespass to a residence for trying to break into a home while running from police.

He was expected to appear in bond court Friday.
