A 17-year-old boy was killed in a South Austin neighborhood shooting Monday night on the West Side.

Jeremiah Parker had just gotten out of his vehicle about 8:30 p.m. and was entering a home in the 500 block of South Lockwood when an armed male in a black hoodie confronted him and demanded his car keys, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

A struggle ensued, during which the gun went off and the boy was struck in the chest and arm, police said. The suspect then ran away.

Parker was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:42 p.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 700 block of North Homan.
