Police: Driver cited after woman fatally struck by car in Avalon Park

A driver has been cited after a 45-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago Police.

The woman was crossing the street in the 8100 block of South Stony Island Avenue about 8:05 p.m. when she was hit by a Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling southbound, police said.

The woman was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately confirm the death.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, remained at the scene after the crash, police said. He was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway.
