An west suburban man was convicted Wednesday of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 12 over the course of four years.

A jury convicted 38-year-old Armando Romero-Gutierrez of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and 16 counts of criminal sexual abuse, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office. He faces between 15 and 67 years in prison for the crimes and must register as a sexual offender.

Between 2010 and 2014, Romero-Gutierrez sexually assaulted and abused a young child he knew, prosecutors said.

Romero-Gutierrez, of the 100 block of South LaSalle Street in Aurora, is scheduled to be sentenced May 20.
