An 18-year-old man refused to pay his fare then stole a woman’s cellphone onboard a South Shore Line train Saturday night in northwest Indiana, according to police.

Devon D. Thomas, who’s charged with robbery, refused to pay his fare at the East Chicago, Indiana, station, according to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District transit police, then grabbed a cellphone from a Terre Haute, Indiana, woman and ran off the train.

NICTD Police Officer Charlie Mathewson searched the neighborhood and found and arrested Thomas, who was charged after the victim identified him and her cellphone, which he had in his possession, police said.
