Two gang members have been charged with drug possession after authorities searched a storage unit the pair used that contained guns and various drugs.
Eddie M. Calhoun, 36, of the 2100 block of Orchard Lane in Round Lake, was charged with five felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, three felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, and four felony counts of weapon possession by a felon, according to a statement from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Wayne Mackins, 55, of the 12000 block of Yorkhouse Road in Beach Park, was charged with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, according to the statement.
The Lake County Gang Task Force began investigating the gang members after detectives pulled over a car that Calhoun was driving with Mackins in the passenger seat. Detectives found 11.2 grams of crack cocaine and over $1,000 in the car, according to the statement.
The task force obtained a search warrant and searched a storage unit in the 600 block of South Green Bay Road in Waukegan, which was used by Calhoun. Authorities recovered over $5,000, three riffles and a handgun, 357.9 grams of packaged marijuana, 333.6 grams of crack and powder cocaine, 34.9 grams of packaged heroin, 17 Oxycodone pills, 131 Hydrocodone pills, and equipment used to prepare cocaine and heroin for sale, according to the statement.
Calhoun is being held on a $200,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Mackins is being held on a $100,000 bond. His next court date is Nov. 25.
