A newborn girl was found abandoned early Tuesday in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood on the Near West Side.

The infant was discovered about 3 a.m. on the stairs of a building in the 1100 block of North Oakley, according to Chicago Police.

She was wrapped in blankets with her umbilical cord still attached, Chicago Fire Department Cmdr. Walter Schroeder said.

The girl was taken in good condition to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, authorities said. She was later transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago for observation.

Police said the girl did not appear to have any injuries. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has been notified and is investigating.
