Outbound Stevenson reopens after truck fire

All outbound lanes of the Interstate 55 Stevenson Expressway have reopened early Thursday after a semi caught fire on the Southwest Side and shut down traffic for about three hours.

The truck hauling appliances was engulfed in flames when emergency crews responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday on the Stevenson near Kedzie, according to Illinois State Police. The fire was put out shortly after and no one was hurt.

Outbound lanes were closed until about 2:15 a.m. Thursday as crews cleared the scene, state police said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
