Otis Wilson’s absence from the Pro Bowl last year taught him the importance of lobbying. Besides lobbying the media for recognition, he has lobbied Bear defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan for chances to make the sacks that draw recognition for linebackers. “With Otis always on Buddy like that, we’ve been blitzing a lot,” Mike Richardson says. That puts him and the other cornerback, Leslie Frazier, in one-on-one pass coverage. “We don’t have a problem unless it’s third-and-20 and we

The defense has blitzed more than in previous years. Wilson has 7 1/2 sacks – third on the team and only two behind Lawrence Taylor, the NFC’s leading linebacker. Wilson had 7 1/2 all last year.
