A fire caused about $20,000 worth of damage to a home in west suburban Batavia Monday afternoon.

Crews responded at 5:15 p.m. to the blaze in the 34W200 block of Sunset Drive, according to the Batavia Fire Department.

They were able to extinguish a fire in the attic above the garage in about 35 minutes, fire officials said. No one was hurt.

The homeowner had been repairing the gutters with a torch that ignited part of the roof and spread to the attic, officials said. Damage was estimated at $20,000.
