Man killed in Gage Park shooting

A man was fatally shot Monday night in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Jose Ernesto Martinez, 30, was shot in the upper chest and armpit about 6:40 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Washtenaw Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Martinez, of the 5100 block of South Mozart, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:11 p.m., authorities said. His death was ruled a homicide.
