A 21-year-old woman died early Friday after being shot in northwest Indiana.

Hammond police were called about 1 a.m. Friday to reports of a woman who was shot in the 900 block of Becker Street, according to Hammond police.

Kadejah Jackson, of Hammond, was shot and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 3:55 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Her death was ruled a homicide.

A suspect in the shooting was taken into custody Friday morning, according to Hammond police.
