A driver was airlifted to a hospital after his vehicle left the roadway and crashed early Tuesday in northwest suburban Streamwood.

The male driver was in a pickup just before 4 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Irving Park Road west of Sunnydale Boulevard, according to the Streamwood Police and Fire departments. The truck left the roadway and struck a fence and a tree. The driver was pinned inside the vehicle, which was heavily damaged.

It took firefighters 25 minutes to extricate him from the truck, according to the fire department. He was then airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in serious condition.
