A man was shot to death Monday evening in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Someone walked up to 26-year-old Tiawain A. Johnson from behind about 8:13 p.m. and fired multiple shots at him in the 2600 block of East 83rd Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The shooter then ran away.

Johnson, who lived in the South Side Gresham neighborhood, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10 p.m., authorities said.

Area South detectives were investigating.
