A man was fatally shot Sunday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to police.

About 11:20 p.m., 35-year-old Kevin L. Marshall was standing on a sidewalk in the 3100 block of West Madison Street when someone fired shots and struck him near his armpit, Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Shortly after the shooting, police had taped off an area around the courtyard of an apartment building in the block.

Marshall, who lived on the West Side, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The shooting took place two blocks from where four people, including a 12-year-old boy, were wounded in two separate shootings the night before.
