A two-year-old girl has died after being injured in a Friday morning crash in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood.
Skylar Dixon died at Comer’s Children’s Hospital at 9:23 p.m. Monday, three days after the 2017 Hyundai Elanta she was traveling in ran a red light and collided with a 2016 Dodge Charger at the intersection of 49th Street and King Drive, according to Chicago Police and the the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
An autopsy Tuesday found the girl died of multiple injuries suffered in the crash and her death was ruled an accident, authorities said.
The driver of the Elantra, Dyanna Davis, 23, of the Bronzeville neighborhood, was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license, according to police. She was also cited for driving without insurance, failing to wear a seat belt and child restraint violations. Davis was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Lake County.
The crash also injured Davis and an 8-year-old boy who was also in the Elantra, police said. Davis was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition and the boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, but was later stabilized.
The driver of the Dodge, a 23-year-old man, declined medical treatment at the scene, police said. He was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
