Chance the Rapper is officially engaged.

The 25-year-old rapper and Chicago native tweeted on the 4th of July, “She said yes,” with an image of two interwined chain links.

Congratulations poured in in response, as news leaked that the independent artist, born Chancelor Bennett, had proposed to longtime girlfriend Kirsten Corley, with whom he has a 2-year-old daughter, Kensli.

Chance pops the question in this video shared on Instagram:

Sibling and fellow artist Taylor Bennett congratulated his brother on his own Instagram page, posting a photo of the brothers with Corley and another woman, saying, “Proposed In The Hunninds! @chancetherapper You A Real One! 7-4-18 #BlockBoys.”

In the photo, an ecstatic Corley is flashing a huge diamond ring on her wedding finger.

Chance, who has made a name for himself, first with a historic 2017 Grammy Award for best rap album — first ever awarded to a streaming-only album — and then through his advocacy for Chicago Public Schools funding, proposed at a 4th of July barbecue on the South Side, surrounded by family and friends.

In a video posted on The Shade Room’s Instagram page and later shared on other pages, Chance dropped to one knee and took Corley’s hand, as everyone screams with excitement, saying, “Kirsten Katrina Corley, will you make me a man and be my wife?”

After Corley says yes, Chance calls over his daughter, who jumps into his arms, as the couple kiss and wrap their daughter in an embrace.

The laid back proposal was apparently planned that way by Chance, and kept a secret, Corley later divulged. A friend videotapes the two dancing, as Corley waves her hand, showing off the ring, then the couple, who have been dating since 2013, raise red paper cups in a toast with friends and family.

“It gets real around these times. And I’m not playing about mine. So just know it. It’s always been that way, but it’s just that much more serious,” Chance says. “To both of our families, to the love of God that got us here, through so many different hardships …. To my friends that guided me in every direction. I just hope that you all continue to guide me in the right way.”

Corley adds: “Thanks very much for being a part of this, and for keeping it such a good secret, because I am like a detective. But you guys were like, you guys were rock solid.”

The two had gone through a messy split six months after their daughter was born, with Corley filing for child support, then withdrawing the filing in 2017 after the two reconciled.
