While the early basketball signing period is less than two weeks away for prospects in the Class of 2020, Mundelein’s Conor Enright will have to patiently wait another 52 or so weeks.

But at least the 6-1 junior guard knows where he will be signing a year from now.

Enright made an early commitment early Friday morning, choosing Drake over Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois.

“After having been there on three different occasions and getting to know the coaching staff and the program, I could never find anything that I didn’t like,” Enright said. “From the coaches to the culture of the program, it was a place I felt like I could call home.”

Although his overall recruitment was somewhat at its beginning stages, Enright said he felt no need to wait. Drake made Enright a priority very early and stuck with him throughout the past year.

“I just loved the opportunity I will have there and everything about it, so I took that opportunity and ran with it,” Enright said.

Last season as a sophomore, Enright helped fuel the re-emergence of Mundelein basketball. He led the Mustangs to 20 wins while averaging 15.5 points and 5.1 assists. He’s among the City/Suburban Hoops Report’s top 20 prospects in the junior class.

Drake, meanwhile, continues making a strong push into Illinois with its recruiting and gained a whole lot of traction recruiting the state.

Coach Darian Devries, who begins his second year at Drake, signed a pair of Illinois products out of the Class of 2019 — Bolingbrook’s Joseph Yesufu and Lemont’s Nate Ferguson. Those two are now promising freshmen for the Bulldogs.

Loyola’s Jordan Kwiecinski, one of the City/Suburban Hoops Report’s top 15 prospects in the Class of 2020 in Illinois, will sign with Drake in November.

Now Enright will add to the pipeline in the Class of 2021.

“That does appeal to me,” says Enright of the Illinois contingent that will be at Drake. “I like how Illinois players play, and I look forward to playing with them.”

The competitive and scrappy junior will lead a Mundelein team that hopes to challenge Stevenson in the North Suburban Conference and boasts top 25 ranking potential.
