Man fatally struck by forklift in Bridgeport

A Brighton Park man died Monday after he was hit by a forklift in Bridgeport on the South Side.

A witness told officers the man was hit by a forklift about 3:40 p.m. at a business in the 1200 block of West 37th Street, Chicago police said.

Roberto Alvarez, 57, was pronounced dead about 4:30 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The incident happened at Midwest Carpet and Flooring, 1201 W. 37th St., the medical examiner’s office said.

An autopsy found Alvarez died of multiple injuries from the crash and ruled his death an accident, the medical examiner’s office said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the incident, according to U.S. Department of Labor spokesman Scott Allen.
