GLENDALE, Ariz. — Left fielder Eloy Jimenez left the White Sox’ Cactus League game against the Athletics Wednesday with left shoulder discomfort after attempting to make a leaping catch above the fence.

Jimenez, who remained down on the warning track for several moments after extending the glove on his left hand over the fence on A’s catcher Sean Murphy’s home run against Lance Lynn, walked off and headed to the trainer’s room with Sox training staff.

The Sox said Jimenez will be further evaluated Thursday.

Lynn saw Jimenez by the training room and said Jimenez seemed to be “in good spirits.” “They’re trying to see what’s going on, hopefully it’s nothing big and he can get back out there quick,” Lynn said.

A Silver Slugger winner last season, Jimenez collected his team-high 11th RBI of the spring with a single to right field in the first inning.

The oft-injured Jimenez has been hurt in the outfield before, colliding with Charlie Tilson in the outfield in July of 2019 in Kansas City and injuring his elbow. In July of last season, he banged his head backing into the wall in a game against the Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field and missed a couple days under concussion protocol.

He missed most of the 2020 Wild Card series against the A’s after spraining his foot on the basepaths in a game against the Indians in the last week of the season.

The Sox lost outfielder Adam Engel to a hamstring injury last week and won’t have Engel available for Opening Day on April 1.
