Victims of gun violence always deserve a voice — not just when a cop is involved

Where is the outrage? Where are the marches, the rallies, the protests against killing kids?

Violence in the city always increases when it gets warmer out. Kids are on summer break from school and deserve to enjoy the summer with friends, family, riding their bikes and going to the park. Kids shouldn’t have to worry about being shot and killed, yet so far this year 52 kids under 15 years of age have been shot and 10 have been killed.

Yet when a police officer shoots an armed person, whether a teenager or adult, the same people who remain silent on kids getting gunned down seem to find the time and a voice to protest. Why is that?

Seems convenient to me. Victims of violence deserve a voice — and not just when police are involved.

Question to all gun owners

Many thanks to Neil Steinberg for his column on the danger of owning guns. His argument is straightforward and rational; unfortunately, as he said, this is a very emotionally-charged issue, so rationality has little to do with it.

Steinberg quoted from a typically hysterical NRA mailing, which no doubt was intentionally meant to frighten gun owners by warning them that their guns would be “forcibly confiscated by the government.”

This message is the same tired garbage the NRA has been peddling, quite effectively, for years. They often warned gun owners that President Obama was going to confiscate all their guns, remember? Gun sales went through the roof.

My question to all gun owners: how many of your guns were actually confiscated while Obama was president? Please be specific.

Municipal water systems

Ownership of municipal water systems must be preserved to ensure fair distribution of clean water to all citizens based on need and not totally on ability to pay.

Remember, what happened when delivery of basic medical care was turned over to private companies?
