3 takeaways from Bears’ loss to Packers: Allen Robinson, Akiem Hicks, David Montgomery

Allen Robinson deserves wide receiver sainthood for putting up 1,000-yard seasons with Blake Bortles and Mitch Trubisky. Also, it’s time to shut everybody down if they’re hurt. And wasn’t David Montgomery supposed to be the next big thing?

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Bears’ season is over after a 21-13 loss at Green Bay, marking the seventh series sweep for the Packers in Aaron Rodgers’ career, and they’ll finish with two meaningless games against the Chiefs and Vikings. At 7-7, they’re far from where they thought they’d be at this point.

Here are three things worth noting from the defeat:

Relentless Robinson. When life hands you Mitch Trubisky and Blake Bortles as your quarterbacks, make lemonade. Robinson has been the best thing about the Bears’ offense and sometimes the only good thing. He caught seven passes for 125 yards, pushing him over 1,000 for the second time, but it felt hollow. “Anything that is positive that will come out of [this] is hard to enjoy in the moment,” he said.

Shut it down. There’s a lot to love about Akiem Hicks gutting out his elbow injury to play Sunday, but it’s time to go right back on Injured Reserve. With nothing to play for, the Bears can close the book on Danny Trevathan and anybody else who is hobbled.

Missing Montgomery. He’s just a rookie, but running back David Montgomery hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. He came in averaging 3.5 yards per carry and ran for 39 on 14 attempts Sunday.
