The Bears took North Carolina wide receiver Dazz Newsome in the sixth round (221st overall pick) of the NFL Draft on Saturday.
The 5-10, 190-pound Newsome was a four-year starter as a slot receiver at North Carolina. He had 54 receptions for 684 yards (12.7 avg.) and six touchdowns last season. He had 72 receptions for 1,018 yards (14.1 avg.) and 10 touchdowns as a junior in 2019. He ran a 4.57 40-yard dash at North Carolina’s pro day.
The Bears came into the draft with a potential need at wide receiver, pending the status of Anthony Miller, who was considered a possibility to be traded after an uneven season in 2020 that ended with him getting ejected from the Bears’ playoff game against the Saints for an altercation with corner Chauncey Gardner-Johnson.
