Boy, 17, killed in Grand Crossing shooting

A 17-year-old boy was shot to death Saturday in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter call about 9:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 78th Street and found David Phillips on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed he died of his wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death has been ruled a homicide.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
