A 21-year-old Austin neighborhood man faces felony charges in connection to a 2018 carjacking on the West Side.

Michael Mahone was arrested Wednesday in downstate Menard after he was identified as the person who carjacked a 60-year-old woman, Chicago police said.

On Nov. 17, 2018, Mahone allegedly confronted the woman from behind in the 5000 block of West Quincy Street, police said.

He grabbed her and demanded the keys to her vehicle, police said. He took the keys and drove away in her blue Hyundai Santa Fe. The woman was uninjured, police said.

Mahone was being held at the Menard Correctional Facility, 60 miles south of St. Louis, on a count each of vehicular hijacking, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful restraint and battery.

He was expected to appear in court Thursday.
