Buck of the Week: First buck 8-pointer

Mick Mullady made his first deer a good one: an 8-point buck weighing 180 pounds. The Kankakee freshman hunted with his brother Zach on Friday.

The sons of guide Matt and grandsons of Illinois Outdoor Hall-of-Famer Ed watched the buck bed down 50 yards. Zach got it moving with a grunt call. Mick finished the job on a perfect chest shot with Rage broadheads shot from his Mission Riot bow.

“An 8-point for my first deer isn’t too bad,” Mick said.

Perfect to start BOTW, the celebration of big bucks taken by hunters around Chicago outdoors, early this fall. Send nominations on Facebook (Dale Bowman), Twitter (@BowmanOutside) or email (straycasts@sbcglobal.net).
