Calumet City man killed in Dan Ryan crash identified

A south suburban man killed in a chain-reaction crash Monday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Expressway has been identified.

Reginald Hudson, 58, was driving a Pontiac Grand Am that broke down sometime before 1 p.m. in the outbound lanes of I-90/94 near 43rd Street, according to Illinois State Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The Pontiac was partially on the left shoulder and partially in the left lane of traffic, police said. A Toyota Highlander SUV behind it could not stop in time, and a Chevrolet Silverado then hit the Highlander, pushing it into the Pontiac.

The chain-reaction crash also caused the Pontiac to hit a gray Toyota Camry, police said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, authorities said.

Hudson, of the 0-100 block of 155th Street in Calumet City, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Tuesday found he died of multiple blunt force injuries from the accident.

The three left lanes were closed for roughly three hours as crews investigated and cleaned up.
