BNSF trains face major delays because of 'suspicious package'

(AURORA) Metra BNSF trains are back on the move with significant delays after police were called to investigate a suspicious package on the tracks near west suburban Aurora.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains traveling to Aurora and Chicago were stopped about 5:30 p.m. near Aurora “due to ongoing police activity,” a Metra rider alert said.

Police were investigating a “suspicious package on the tracks around McClure,” Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

No further details were immediately available.

As of 6:15 p.m., Metra said trains were back on the move, with delays of 10-110 minutes.
