A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Monday evening in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The boy was shot in the chest shortly after 5 p.m. in the 8400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:10 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.His identity was withheld Monday night pending notification of family.

Area Central detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
