Man seriously injured, may have fallen down shaft in Buena Park

A man was seriously injured Thursday afternoon after he reportedly fell down what may have been an elevator shaft in the Buena Park neighborhood on the North Side.

Emergency crews responding shortly before 1 p.m. to the 4100 block of North Marine Drive found a 33-year-old man outside a building, according to Fire Media Affairs. The initial call said he had fallen down a shaft.

The man told authorities he fell seven or eight feet, fire officials said, but it was not clear where he had fallen. Fire officials said they were getting conflicting reports.

He was taken in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
