(EVANSTON) A Chicago man was shot Thursday night in north suburban Evanston.

The 26-year-old had been visiting friends at a home in the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue when he stepped out into the building’s gangway and was shot by a male who approached from the backyard, Evanston police said in a statement.

He was shot in the buttocks and taken to NorthShore University HealthSystem Evanston Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

Police said the man has a history of gang ties and is not cooperating with investigators.
