Man run over by vehicle, killed on Far South Side

A vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian Wednesday morning in the East Side neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The crash happened in the 11600 block of South Avenue O about 9 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

The driver was backing up when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, Estrada said.

Luis Carrasco, 68, of the 4800 block of South Long was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The driver stayed on the scene and the police Major Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case.
