A 49-year-old man shot and seriously wounded a 20-year-old man who refused to leave his property Monday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

At 7:08 p.m., the younger man walked into the other man’s yard in the 700 block of North Monticello and refused to leave, according to Chicago Police. During an ensuing confrontation, the younger man walked toward the homeowner, who pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest.

The younger man was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition, police said.

The homeowner was questioned by investigators but was released without being charged, police said.

Area North detectives were investigating.
