SHARE Marked squad car stolen from Gary police has been recovered

A marked Gary Police Department squad car that was stolen Tuesday has been recovered, according to police.

The fully marked white 2010 Ford Crown Victoria was stolen from the area of 4th Avenue and Pierce Street, according to Gary Police Lt. Dawn Westerfield. Unconfirmed reports said it was taken from in front of the officer’s home.

The squad car contained a mounted police radio and computer, but no weapons, Westerfield said. The unit was locked and no keys were inside.

Additional details were not immediately available.
