WASHINGTON — The Senate voted 73-22 on Thursday on a continuing resolution to keep government funded through Dec. 11, with the measure containing a provision to train and equip “appropriately vetted” Syrian rebels to battle the Islamic State group, also known as ISIL or ISIS.

The House passed a similar bill and Wednesday, and the legislation heads to President Barack Obama to sign.

Illinois Sens. Dick Durbin, a Democrat, and Mark Kirk, a Republican, both voted yes.
