Bears make cuts, place safety Ryan Mundy on IR

Ryan Mundy, the man who played more snaps than any Bear last season, won’t take the field for a single one this year.

The Bears placed the safety on Injured Reserve on Sunday night, ending his season because of a hip injury suffered about two weeks ago.

The decision came the same day the Bears decided to cut the person who played the second-most snaps last year, cornerback Tim Jennings, one of a series of cuts that whittled their roster to 76 players.

In the second-year of a two-year contract, Mundy might have played his last down for the Bears, particularly if the team wants to skew young. Rookie Adrian Amos has started alongside veteran Antrel Rolle the past two preseason games.

Wide receiver Kevin White was placed on the PUP list, which the team had said two weeks ago.

The Bears said they terminated the contract running back Daniel Thomas, who had served as the sixth of six members of the group.

The team waived safety Malcolm Bronson, tight end Kevin Greene, tackle Cameron Jefferson, wide receiver Jeremy Kelley, cornerback AL Louis-Jean, long snapper Rick Lovato, wide receiver Levi Norwood, defensive end Olsen Pierre and tight end Chris Pantale. Wideout Josh Chiles, who was hurt Saturday, was waived/injured.

The Bears must trim their roster from 76 to 75 by Tuesday and 53 by Saturday.
