Body pulled from lagoon near Museum of Science and Industry

The body of a man was pulled out of Jackson Park Lagoon Saturday morning near the Museum of Science and Industry in the South Side Hyde Park neighborhood.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit was called for reports of a body in the water about 9:30 a.m. near the museum at 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, police News Affairs Officer Janel Sedevic said.

Jamil Sharif, 49, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 8800 block of South Saginaw Avenue.

An autopsy Sunday did not rule on the cause or manner of his death pending further investigation.

Police are conducting a death investigation.
