Flash flood watch issued for Chicago area Wednesday

A flash flood watch will be in effect for most of Wednesday throughout the Chicago area.

The flash flood watch will start at 10 a.m. as thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms will be capable of producing rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour and could cause localized flash flooding, the weather service said.

The watch will remain in effect through late Wednesday night in Cook, Boone, De Kalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Will and Winnebago counties in Illinois and Lake and Porter counties in northwest Indiana.
