A man was fatally shot Sunday afternoon in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

Ryan D. Thornton, 30, was sitting in a vehicle at 12:33 p.m. in the 400 block of East Garfield when another vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Thornton was shot in the left cheek, left hip and left side of his body and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side.
