A 17-year-old boy was shot to death in the Chatham neighborhood Friday evening on the South Side.

About 5:45 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of East 82nd Street found De’Near Dashaun Scott lying on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Scott was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 6:18 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 6800 block of South Aberdeen.

Police said the shooting was thought to be gang-related.
