(GLENDALE HEIGHTS) A man was injured and the driver ran away when a taxi crashed into a west suburban Glendale Heights home early Monday.

Rescue crews responded to the crash about 1:10 a.m. at a home in the 1800 block of Gregory Avenue, according to the Glendale Heights Police Department.

A taxi drove through the side of the home and a person who was inside at the time was able to get out with minor injuries, Richard Kurka, battalion chief for the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District, told reporters at the scene.

The victim was taken to Adventist GlenOaks Hospital in Glendale Heights for observation, Kurka said.

“It doesn’t look like anything structural was affected, no load-bearing walls or anything. We have a board-up service on the way,” Kurka told reporters. The village’s building department was called to the scene.

The taxi’s driver fled the scene after the crash, police said.

Cheryl Grisch, who said she lives at the home, told reporters her dad and her dog were both trapped under a wall when the taxi collided with the home.

“They’re both OK though,” she said.

Grisch said she was “pretty pissed” about the crash.

“[The driver] ran away, all I know is they’re looking for him,” she said.

As of 3:30 a.m., the driver was still at large, police said.
