It’s been buzzed about in local media circles in Chicago for weeks, but on Monday, WLS-Channel 7 honchos made it official: Former WMAQ-Channel 5 meteorologist Cheryl Scott has joined the weather team at the local ABC station.

According to the announcement released by the station’s vice president and news director Jennifer Graves, Scott will “work alongside ABC 7’s team of meteorologists — Jerry Taft, Tracy Butler, Mike Caplan and Phil Schwarz — and will fill in during various newscasts.”

While chief meteorologist Taft’s contract has recently been extended for two years, it is expected that Scott eventually will step into his position in the station’s key 10 p.m. and early evening newscasts.
