Teenager killed, another wounded in Skokie shooting

(SKOKIE) A 17-year-old boy died Sunday night after a shooting in north suburban Skokie that also left a teenage girl critically wounded.

Maxwell Gadau, 17, of the 7800 block of Tripp Avenue in Skokie, and a 17-year-old girl were in a car in the 9200 block of Kedvale Avenue when they were shot at 9:41 p.m., according to Skokie police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gadau was pronounced dead at Evanston Hospital at 10:19 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

The girl was in critical condition at a hospital Monday morning, a statement from police said.

Both were Skokie residents and students at Niles North High School, police said. Counselors were available at the school Monday to help students and faculty.

According to police, the shooting was not believed to be a random act, and there is no danger to the community. The North Regional Major Crimes Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
