The southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive have reopened after a bus fire shut down inbound traffic on the Near North Side for several hours during the Tuesday morning rush.

All lanes were shut down after a southbound CTA 147 bus caught fire about 5:45 a.m. near Lake Shore Drive and North Avenue, according to police and CTA officials.

The driver pulled over and got all passengers off the bus after noticing smoke in the back of the vehicle, CTA spokeswoman Lambrini Lukidis said.

It wasn’t immediately known how many people were on the bus, but Lukidis said it was “full.” No one was injured.

The bus was towed off Lake Shore Drive by 8:35 a.m., Lukidis said. The lanes were reopened about 9 a.m., according to police.
