No degree? No Yahoo gig for Paltrow

Bet this was a first for Gwyneth Paltrow! The Oscar winner can’t be used to people rejecting her for various professional jobs.

That’s what has happened — thanks to Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer. Seems the actress and lifestyle expert was turned down by Mayer for a Yahoo Food contributing editor job because Paltrow doesn’t have a college degree.

Apparently, the fact Paltrow has launched her successful Goop lifestyle blog and penned two bestselling cookbooks didn’t cut the mustard, so to speak, with Mayer.

The New York Times reported Mayer “habitually asked deputies where they attended college.”

Paltrow briefly studied anthropology at the University of California at Santa Barbara before she dropped out to pursue her acting career.

Mayer, a former Google executive, was brought in to remake the once-great Yahoo in 2012; however, despite a number of changes, Mayer’s efforts to turn things around have yet to bear fruit, and she herself is a frequent target of business critics.
